Hidden Cubes

Hidden Cubes are exploration finds in Altgard and Verteron, often tucked away from the main road. To find an AION 2 hidden cube, check cliffs, elevated ledges, ruins, and the underwater locations listed below, and listen for a shimmering sound as you approach. Treat each location as a possible spawn point: if it is empty, search nearby elevations or return later.

How Do You Search a Hidden Cube Location?

A location can look like a straightforward map stop at first. In practice, the important detail is often its height: a cube can sit above the road, below a cliff edge, or beneath the water rather than directly beside the landmark. Use the AION 2 interactive map to orient yourself, then read the terrain description before searching.

Match the landmark and direction

Pick a spot in your current region from the tables below. Check both the named landmark and the direction, such as northeast of the Temporary Investigation Base. Confirm your approach by finding the described terrain, such as a rocky plateau or narrow cliff ledge. Reaching the landmark alone does not finish the search.

Check the correct height

Look at cliffs, rooftops, corners, narrow paths, and elevated ledges instead of staying on the main route. For a location described as underwater, look beneath the surface. You are checking the right layer when the terrain matches the entry: a mushroom top is different from a ledge under a mushroom, for example.

Listen before moving on

Listen for a shimmering sound while exploring the spot and nearby terrain. That sound can reveal a Hidden Cube before you see it. Hearing it is a useful clue to keep searching locally; spotting the cube itself confirms you have found an active spawn.

Check the cube before claiming it

Most cubes need Hidden Keys, which are consumed when you claim them. Some gold cubes can be opened without consuming a key. Check its color and your available keys before trying to claim it; a successful key-consuming claim uses a Hidden Key, while a key-free gold cube does not.

Where Should You Look in Altgard?

Altgard has many cliff and ruin locations, but there are also finds at the base of cliffs and along the shoreline. The following spots are grouped by nearby landmarks for easier scanning, rather than presented as a guaranteed route. Choose the group closest to you, then check neighboring ledges if the first spot is empty.

Landmark or areaSpecific terrain to search
Hidden caveRuins just outside the cave.
Valley along the main roadBoth opposing mountain sides of the valley.
Archway to Basfelt WaterfalCliff side just outside the archway; also check the cliffside near the archway.
Regional craterTops of the ruins inside the crater.
Impetusium Square strongholdSea-facing cliff north of the stronghold; in Eastern Gribade Highland, check the cliff facing that stronghold.
Special Operations Leader LinxCliffside of a nearby enemy camp north of the field boss.
Faded StumpCliff edge northeast of the stump.
Galorik's Inspection AreaNarrow ledge along the cliffs to the northeast.
Temporary Investigation BaseRocky ledge northeast; rocky plateau north, slightly northeast; another cliff ledge northeast and north of Canyon Watch Area.
Safe HavenRocky plateau southeast of the haven.
Quai Campsite and Fang HideoutGrassy area southwest of Quai Campsite, east of Silent Hill; top of the natural stone bridge northeast of Fang Hideout and southwest of Quai Campsite.
Sanctum OutpostGrassy slope at the cliff base northwest; grassy cliffside northwest overlooking ruins; rocky ledge inside a cliffside hollow west.
Silent HillGrassy slope southwest, west of Fang Hideout; grassy coastal cliff southwest of Silent Hill and northwest of Sanctum Outpost.
Neglected CrematoriumRocky ledge southwest and west of Gravekeeper Camp; red-grass ledge west; red-grass slope northwest.
Nameless CemeteryRed-grass cliff northwest, north of the Neglected Crematorium.
Elim's Rest and Moslan ForestRocky ledge west of Elim's Rest; cliff ledge southwest of Moslan Forest and northwest of Elim's Rest.
Battlecar MoundRocky spires northwest, northeast of Briskwind Shelter.
Fissure CaveGrassy cliff ledge northeast, along the eastern coast.
Onulak Street StallRocky ledge beside the stall, at the base of the cliffs.
Fafnite DepositRocky shoreline northwest and southwest of Steel Hammer Base; coastal cliff above that area; rock in shallow water northwest and north of Steel Hammer Workcamp.
Abandoned CampsiteRocky ledge northeast and southeast of Steel Hammer Workcamp; rocky ridge northeast and south of the workcamp; grassy shoreline southwest.

The Sanctum Outpost and Fafnite Deposit entries are good reminders to check more than one layer. A slope at the cliff base, an elevated ledge, and a coastal rock describe different search surfaces. If you only scan the highest ground, you can miss the lower candidates. Match the terrain first, then use the shimmering sound to narrow your search.

Where Should You Look in Verteron?

Verteron's locations include mushroom colonies, floating rocks, spine-like structures, and several underwater pockets. Water is a real search layer here, not just scenery around a cliff location. In particular, keep the separate lake segments in Cantas Valley in mind.

Landmark or areaSpecific terrain to search
Crimson IslesHuge spine-like structure; beneath it on the southwest side; northwest side near the water; high rocks on the western side.
Drana Processing AreaArea with bent coils; rocks south of Sentinel K'nash.
Ellun River MarshFloating rock on the western side; west of a building near an Empyrean Trace; rocks south of Rotten Kutar; upper rocks west of the Collapsed Verteron Barrier Tower.
Scarlet ForestHill overlooking Maktashan stronghold to the south; near a tree south of the stronghold.
Cantas Valley Base and Coastal CampCliff side north of Cantas Valley Base; ledge east of Coastal Camp.
Western Cantas ValleyCliffside southwest; small rock outcropping between the valley and Ellun Midstream River; underwater in the first and second lake segments, plus the third segment closer to Western Cantas Valley.
Dawn Legion BaseShoreline above the base; top of a pillar above it; rocky ledge north; cliffside northeast; shoreline rock north; mushroom colony on the cliffside south; cliffside south.
Steep Guard PostRock north of the post; nearby flying islet; top of a mushroom east.
Ugaros Theives CampsiteCliff ledge north of the campsite.
East Cantas CampCliff edge southeast; mushroom colony on the cliff southeast.
Eastern Cantas ValleyBehind ruined stone wall south; cliffside dividing the valley from Ellun Midstream River; underwater in the third lake segment closer to Eastern Cantas Valley.
Ellun River MeadowCliff top west; waterfall and river between the meadow and Contaminated Marsh.
Marsh Outpost and Ellun River Marsh Cliff KibeliskCliff edge west of Marsh Outpost; cliffside north of Ellun River Marsh; cliffside south of the Cliff Kibelisk; shoreline north of the marsh.
Collapsed Veteron Barrier TowerNearby islet.
Anguish HillRock ledge on the cliffside east; cliff ledge above the ruins.
Wind Breeze Merchants HQCliffside northeast; rock beside a cliff east.
Pamos Farm and Hideout in Front of the RuinsUnderwater in the northern and southern parts of the isolated deep lake east of Pamos Farm; underwater in the isolated deep lake west of the hideout; north side of the hideout's cliffside.
Blooming Korin and Ruins Exploration CampRocky outcropping northwest of Blooming Korin; waterfall east of Ruins Exploration Camp.
Urugugu CanyonShrubbery southwest; edge of a rockface west.
Poacher's BaseRiver north in Southern Tolbas Forest; rock outcropping east; tree east.
Shugo stationsBridge connecting Northern Tolbas Forest and Southern Shugo Station; rock north of Eastern Shugo Station; small rock outcropping above a cave entrance east of Eastern Shugo Station.
Aullaeu VillageUnderwater lake next to the Village Border; lake near the rocky riverside; waterfall in the lake next to the village.
Southern Tolbas ForestSmall crevasse above a cave entrance east of the forest.

There is also a rocky ledge under a large mushroom outcropping, but its nearby landmark is unclear. Use that as a terrain clue if you encounter it, rather than making it the destination for a dedicated trip.

For the Cantas lakes, confirm which valley side you are checking before deciding you have searched the third segment. There are separate locations closer to Western Cantas Valley and Eastern Cantas Valley. Around Dawn Legion Base, the pillar top and the northern shoreline rock likewise need separate checks.

Why Is There No Cube at the Spot?

A possible spawn point does not guarantee a cube will be there. Only one player can claim a specific cube per spawn cycle, and Hidden Cubes can rotate between several possible locations. Unlike fixed collectibles such as Empyrean Traces, you cannot treat every marked spot as permanently occupied.

First, compare the surface you searched with the location description. If you checked the road beside a cliff when the entry says ledge, search the ledge before ruling out the spot. Next, check nearby elevated areas and other possible spawn points in the same area. If those are empty too, move on and return later.

Some players have described another player taking cubes around the time they left an area. That fits the practical problem of competing for a spawn, but it does not give you a reliable respawn timer. An exact waiting interval is still unclear, so checking another nearby candidate is the steadier choice than camping an empty point indefinitely.

Do You Need a Key When You Find One?

Red Hidden Cubes: Bring Hidden Keys

Most Hidden Cubes use Hidden Keys, and the key is consumed when you claim the cube. Key sources include certain quests, the pass, monolith content, and daily login rewards. If you want to claim standard red cubes while exploring, checking your key supply before a detour is the practical choice.

Some Gold Hidden Cubes: Check the Key-Free Option

Some gold cubes can be opened without consuming a key, although they generally give fewer rewards than the standard red version. If you have no Hidden Keys, this gives you an option when you encounter a key-free gold cube. Do not assume every cube is free just because you found it in the overworld.

Once you claim a cube, you receive its rewards; exact reward contents are still unclear here. Continue through nearby candidate spots if you are hunting more cubes. If you want a different collection target next, use AION 2 ruby location; for a currency-focused session, move to AION 2 kinah. You can also use AION 2 materials to choose your next resource goal.
